The Band Toto Asia
Toto was expanding its production facilities overseas and operating in France, Germany, Indonesia, Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and the People's Republic of China. Toto considered North America as a growth market for Washlet bidet seats and toilets, in contrast to its "base" markets of Japan and China.
Dhaniram Toto documented Toto words to ensure that the future generation could read the words. However, many words were being replaced by foreign words, such as dui from Bengali for verandah.
Origins
The early history of Toto that began in 1917, mirrored Japan's rapid economic expansion. In the early years of its existence, the company made products to meet the demand for modern, contemporary urban housing. To do this, it employed the first tunnel kiln in the country that produced ceramics in a continuous flow. It also pioneered automation for production control, allowing greater efficiency and consistency.

The company began expanding overseas in the late 1980s to benefit from new markets and sales opportunities. The company established the Cera Trading Company to import and market other manufacturers' products in order to complement its own line of sanitary earthenwares and plumbing fittings. This strategy increased sales and increased the company's market share in the world.
In the late 1990s, Toto had shifted its focus on research and development of household appliances that are water-related. It also upgraded its distribution system to better serve customers and increase profit. The company implemented a just-in-time method of managing supply chains, and it used the same approach for its sales process. This resulted in a higher level of satisfaction of customers.
Toto has been able to continue to innovate with regard to toilet technology. Its latest toilet has a powerful, environmentally-friendly tornado flush. Toto uses recycled water in its manufacturing process and has a green buying policy. Toto also manufactures bathtubs, faucets, and hand dryers with higher energy efficiency than conventional models.
The first Toto museum opened in the year 2015. It hosts exhibits on Toto’s seminal products, their evolution, the group companies (all of which are made of ceramics) and the history of plumbing and products such as bath units. In another gallery, visitors can see Toto products sold all over. The museum has bathrooms with a WASHLET as well as other toilet innovations.
Before beginning the formation of Toto members of the group did session work for various musicians. Boz Scaggs' album Silk Degrees featured keyboardist David Paich, guitarists Mike Porcaro & Steve Lukather, drummer Jeff Porcaro & Steve Lukather. They also appeared on records by Steely Don, Seals and Crofts and Sonny and Cher.
Discography
It is common for a group with a name like Asia to be a prog rock group however, it's actually a fairly straight forward rock band. The group was formed as four-piece, and released two albums that were self-titled in 1979 and 1980's Armed to the Teeth. However, even though the group have a variety of musical backgrounds their biggest hit was in 1982 with Toto IV.
The album was a huge blockbuster, however it did not come without its own set of issues. The record companies put Toto under pressure to deliver the top single or they would rescind them. Luckily for Toto they did, with the help of the smash hit single "Africa."
Toto's musical mastery is a result of their prior experience. Before joining the group, the band members were session musicians for artists such as Boz Scaggs. Steely Dan and Seals and Crofts. Their sonic trademark has become the standard for 1980s music, and has inspired a lot of contemporary artists.
The album opens with a strong and pounding sound, with songs such as Running Out of Time and Unknown Soldier showcasing the bands ability to write amazing AOR songs that slowly work their hooks into you. But the album also contains some more mellow, jazzy tracks, like The Little Things and Chinatown. And the album ends with Great Expectations, a song which combines folk and distorted AOR and should sound like a complete flop, but works amazingly well.
After Toto IV The band's fortunes changed towards the negative. David Hungate left to concentrate on his solo career, and the band was through various drummers. In 1984, Bobby Kimball was fired from the band in the aftermath of drug-related charges. However, the band continued as a trio featuring Michael Porcaro and Steve Lukather.
Despite the chaos, Toto forged ahead and released Isolation however, which was not as successful as IV. However, the band managed to release another chart-topping album in 1992, Kingdom of Desire. The album was the last of Toto's lineup and the debut of Simon Phillips, a new vocalist.

Line-up
Turn Back, the band's third studio album, was an ode to the classic sextet format, and it was a more consistent, more powerful effort with a harder edge. The more experimental sound of Turn Back reflected the maturation in the group. Drummer Bobby Kimball's increased proficiency was evident in the vocal delivery of Joseph Williams, who had become more confident and mature. David Paich's keyboard playing was as well more refined, more precise, and less derivative on earlier efforts.
After touring to promote the album, the band recorded a live performance in Amsterdam which was released as a set of two CDs called Falling In Between Live on Eagle Records. A new studio album followed just a few months later and the group embarked on a long-distance tour to promote the album. In this time, keyboardist Greg Phillinganes filled in for Paich, and bassist David Hungate left the group to spend more time with his family.
In 1998, Paich and Lukather started looking through old demo tapes and tapes to make an album that would feature songs that were never recorded before. It was completed as a double-album titled Then And Now in 2001. It was the band's first album that did not contain one single track titled "A". The album also included a previously unreleased track "Kari-Anne".
By 2003, Toto had begun to decline in popularity. The fourth album, Old Is New, was a commercial flop and vocalist Williams suffered from a bad laryngitis condition which hampered his singing. In addition, Hungate returned to Nashville and drummer Leland Sklar was replaced by Shem von Schroeck.
Downes, Wetton Palmer and Howe, the founding members of Asia, met in England early in 2006 to discuss the possibility that the group could be revived. The group, which was missing Howe who was occupied with Yes at the time, became Toto XIV. They toured extensively.
In 2010, the band reunited for another reunion tour with a slightly different line-up, including guitarists Mike Porcaro and Steve Lukather, drummer John Pierce, bassist Shannon Forrest, and multi-instrumentalists Warren Ham and Dominique Taplin. The group also featured a special appearance by singer Michael McDonald and a backing vocalist named Mabvuto Carver.
